GMS Estates is delighted to have received planning approval from Southwark Council this week for a new high-quality office-led scheme on Rushworth Street and King’s Bench Street.

The plans will deliver 4,000sqm (GIA) of flexible modern commercial space, suitable for a variety of business sizes and types, helping to create employment opportunities for local people. The design proposal marks a significant break from other schemes in the area, which have sought to demolish the existing warehouse buildings. The plans include the retention and refurbishment of the existing facades to preserve and enhance the character of the King’s Bench Conservation Area and the nearby listed buildings.

The plans will deliver a range of tangible benefits for the wider community, including the provision of publicly accessible ground floor space, as well as improved pavements and public realm, including trees and benches.

Commenting on the decision, Jason Smith, Executive Director at GMS Estates said “We are extremely pleased to have secured planning permission from Southwark Council. This was the culmination of more than three year’s hard work, with the design of the development proposals strongly influenced by the local context. The architectural approach and resulting design were developed in collaboration with the local community and reflects the historic character of neighbouring buildings, whilst integrating with emerging schemes in the area.”
